jt, The bar code is printing on the right side of the page, covering columns not used to print text. Originally, using SPACEB(x), the bar code would print on one "line", then the text would print after a SPACEB(1). When I changed that to SPACEB(0), the text line disappeared completely. BTW, the bar code is the only thing that I have printing under the "magnum mode". The text is printing under the "straight through mode". Could that be a reason why I can't get text and barcode on the same line? The manual refers to the printer as being a "Printronix" printer. I may try answering my own question above and keep the whole report running under "magnum mode" to see if that fixes things. Are you no longer using a printer with a magnum card? Dan Bale IT - AS/400 Handleman Company 248-362-4400 Ext. 4952 -------------------------- Original Message -------------------------- Dan, Simple answer is: Yes, you can print bar code and text on the same horizontal line. Several things could cause the text to get wiped out. One is that something else (in this case the bar code) is overlaying the same area of the print surface. The bar code should have a length attribute; maybe that is too long. Or maybe the start positions and/or widths cause the two to overlap. Another thing that could cause the text to disappear is that the control characters setting the start position, or setting the font and width are not 100% correct. The Magnum card is pretty particular. One unlikely possibility is that the print buffer filled up right at the point that your missing text was getting loaded. I'm sure there are other possible causes. When I used a Magnum board, IIRC it used "Printronix" control codes. I think that is not exactly the same, but very similar, to the QMS control codes you're using. Hope that helps, jt -----Original Message----- From: owner-midrange-l@midrange.com [mailto:owner-midrange-l@midrange.com]On Behalf Of D.BALE@handleman.com Sent: Friday, November 03, 2000 7:20 PM To: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com Subject: Printing with Code V / Magnum Anybody out there using "Code V" and/or "Magnum" to print barcode or other graphics? The simple question is: Is it possible to print a bar code and a line of text on the same horizontal line? (The problem is that the entire horizontal area that the bar code is printed on wipes out any text that "should" print in the same area.) Other questions may follow if there's someone out there that's still using this technology. ;-) Some of the details: I am looking at a manual that is dated back to 1982. It has a title of "QMS * Quality Micro Systems, Inc." Inside it describes a "Magnum controller" which basically turns a dot matrix line printer into a graphics printer. You print graphics by way of including control codes in your print stream from the AS/400. The printer itself has a dual identity, presumably manufacturer & reseller: Mannessmann Tally Model: 691 667026 Ser#: T2EFG045812 IDEA Part#: B19848-001 Mod#: 13054-01 Ser#: T2EFG045812 I would *greatly* appreciate any help on this topic.
