1) Yes it will work.  The V.35 feature was an option.
2) Yes it will run at full 56Kbps

        Subject:        5394 and V.35 lines

I have a client that is trying to connect an IBM 5394 controller to a V.35
line at a remote location. I was under the impression that the 5394 was
limited to v.25bis dialup and 9600 analog leased line. But they insist that
'it used to work at another location'. I found some references to 5494's and
V.35 in the midrange archives, but no mention of 5394's. The AS/400 is a 510
at V3R7. They have a 56K line with CSU/DSU's attached, which until recently
had an SNA Server attached to the AS/400, so I know the line is working. I
am not sure of the model of the 5394. Of course, they do not have the
manuals for the controller.

1.    Can this work? They have a V.35 pigtail attached to the end of the
cable on the 5394, so I assume they really did have it hooked up this way
once.

2.    If it will work, will a 5394 support the entire 56K, or is the max
speed on these 9.6 or 19.2? Can I set the DTE speed on the CSU/DSU to 19.2,
and let the line itself run at 56K? Or do I need a mutiplexor to cut the
line speed down to 19.2 or 9.6 from the CSU/DSU?

3.    If anyone has one of these working this way, can you private email me
some line/controller configs(of maybe fax the relevant ages from the
manual)?

At this point they want to use the 5394, because this is only a stopgap
measure until they have their new network installed sometime around the
first of the year, at which time everything will be ethernet.

Thanks in advance,
