But think inside the box, :-), C/S & 5250. Move your business logic to a server program and the client can be HTML, VB, C++ or RPG & 5250. This will reduce your Interactive CPW by moving the business logic & data base access to the server program. Who says a 5250 RPG program cannot be a client. Heck the server can be via data queues, (local or remote), sockets or other intra system messaging process you can think of. Since our shop does not have GUI programmers, we are re-writing one of our major applications to the C/S model so we can introduce an image into the application. At first we are separating the business from the presentation, all in RPG and 5250. If you are running on a GUI client, you will be able to view the associated image. We may contract out the GUI part when we get that far. Christopher K. The jobs would go from interactive to server in a migration from 5250 to client server. There was an article in one of the trade rags entitled something like The tax on 5250 applications. Basically IBM gets a lot more money from people who buy their machines with a high interactive capability. The machine running our BPCS(405CD), SoftwarePlus, Delta Data and other stuff has a lot of interactive and batch processes. It is a 730. The machine running our Domino and Adstar PC backups is an 830.
