It really does vary by ISP. We're a Notes shop. Sometimes I monitor my
mail.box, (actually now mail1.box, mail2.box, mail3.box and mail4.box). I
can see when outbound email leaves. Some ISP's stay in there for a long
time - yahoo being one of them. (I have a yahoo account only used to
test.) Sometimes other factors are involved. We used to use a third party
gateway product for internet email, which lasted long after we stopped
being a mixed Notes/MSMail shop (migration). When we dumped that, turnover
sped up quite a bit.
Still grinds you though when you receive a reply before the email.

Hi David,

I didn't mean to reflect poorly on you with that postscript -- I think
you're doing a fine job. I was just curious as to whether it was everyone
on
the list, or just some of us that observe the lag. I'm not sure how this
list works, but I guess it's something like an email message comes in, then
gets sent to everyone on the list. Possibly the people at the top of the
list see little if any time lag, while those on the end see the longest
lag.
Or maybe it's when your ISP decides to pass on emails to other ISP's.

Just curious,
