For examples in RPGIV on sockets go to www.cableone.net/ckb62 I have posted several examples of socket client and server programs. I also have code page conversion API examples posted. My examples were written at 3.7 and can be made to run at 3.2 with the shorting of a few variable and constant names. Go for IT and show those who are afraid of change what a wonderful tool RPGIV is over RPGIII. HTH & Good Luck, Christopher K. (Brad, I tried three guesses as to your email address but no luck remembering it.) Just started at this company a few weeks ago and we have a requirement coming up to do some sockets programming - the AS/400 talks to a VAX box, which controls a slew of automation equipment. They are already doing this with a C program on the AS/400, but there are no AS/400 programmers here who are also C programmers (although we do have a C programmer on staff who can help us through the syntax minefields). The new requirement is for additional automation equipment. I really brightened their day here when I told them that RPG does sockets. So now there really interested in this. (The bonus is that this is a perfect opportunity to show them the benefits of RPG-IV, which is currently not allowed here - they have three other programmers who have never touched RPG-IV. You see that I have my work cut out to get our group with the times!) Anyway, I need a phone number where I can order the book. I need to know if RPG-IV is required to use sockets APIs or if it can be done in RPG-III (I was told to ask this, so please say "no" <G> - ahem, sorry, just the truth, please). Although the light is on at the end of the tunnel to get all of our boxes up to V4R4, this will need to work at V3R7, and will be developed on a V3R2 box unless V3R7 is the earliest release required; please comment. Thanks!
