our ce was by our office today, and we had a little chat about the
as/400, etc.  

did anyone know that ibm ce's are having to do 3 week shifts on the
assembly line in rochester?  ibm can't keep up with the demand of the
new systems!  our ce is leaving on sunday for his shift. 

we discussed the as/400 and perception, and he said what he sees again
and again, is a shop where the as/400 is solid and stable, and then a
p/c type employee is hired.  they then trash the as/400, and gradually
get things off of it. and the main reason they don't like it is that
they don't understand it.  that, more than anything, is the as/400's
worst enemy.

he also seemed surprised that so many are upset that ibm was not
promoting the as/400.  but he did think that ibm was trying to respond
to what the market was demanding.  that being windows type
applications.
