Because of some of erroneous media errors popping up on our 3570, I initialized several tapes to see if they were still good. Now when I try to write to the tapes, I get a CPA4058 message that says: Volume *N on device TAP02 is wrong type (C INZ R). The cause is "Volume *N on device TAP02 is wrong type for *SL file QSYSTAP in QSYS. A standard label volume is required for a *SL or *BLP file. A nonlabeled volume is required for a *NL, *NS, or *LTM file". I am new to tape management and have no idea what a *SL or *BLP file is. Apparently, I did not initialize them correctly. I initialized the all the tapes with NEWVOL *NONE and VOL *MOUNTED as this has been the procedure here for years and it has always worked. Answering the messages with a INZ does work but I need to prevent the messages from occurring. Any ideas on why I am getting the CPA4058 messages? Bryan Burns System Operator Echo, Inc.
