On S/36 SSP there used to be a way to use SDA to walk through screen images
that were generated by whatever means ... SDA/36 or SEU/36 ... of compiled
formats & screens, without actually running the program that called them, for
purposes of reviewing what they looked like when considering some
modifications & also testing what kinds of data the fields allowed to be
entered & disallowed, without the data going any place, just to make sure
this part of the software had been done right. It was often easier for S/36
programmer to run a test of each field this way, via rapid field exiting
through all fields, to make sure not miss anything, well at least it was
easier for me than desk checking the source code.

It was also cool when discussing software with users who wanted some
modification ... we could call the screens up for all to view & do anything
with while discussing possibilities & we would not be touching live data.

I now use DDS/400 when working with screen images & although I am now barely
competent at it, I find myself looking up in manual all the time, what does
this do & how can I do that. Especially when studying source code that is
part of a purchased package, I would love to be able to use some tool like
SDA/36 did to view what these screens look like without actually running the
program that uses their DSPF file.

Can we do that on OS/400 & can some one point me in direction of how to do it?
