That happened to me too when I installed CA SSL. What worked for me was clicking on the AS/400 icon to start it. CA then seemed to add the necessary programs to make SSL work. When I went to check the Connection tag again, the SSL box was active.

I am trying to configure my Client Access connection to use SSL but the "Use
SSL" box under Ops. Nav. in not checkable.
I have V4R4M0 service pack SF60796 installed with ALL options. How do you
enable SSL, I have been reading and I cannot do what is says. The SSL
server appear to be running on the system I am connected to. Ports 8470 -
8480 & 9470- 9476.
