I know I am not Brad but there are a couple of decent firewalls that
don't live on the 400 that I have tested or used in the past.
NetMax ( http://www.netmax.com/products/secure_prods.html ) costs around
$100.00, and WinProxy ( http://www.winproxy.com/ ) costs about $500.00.
NetMax is just a striped down Linux distribution that comes pretty much
preconfigured using ipchains as the firewall, setup and install is really
simple you can have it up and running ( with a little planning ) in about
an hour or so. But it get more complicated after that, I mean if you just
need a basic firewall and don't know anything about linux NetMax out of
the box does a great job.
WinProxy is a bit more newbie friendly, you can do manually defined
content filtering or you can buy content filtering from them. They have a
built in virus scanner which scans incoming email attachments for known
viruses and strips them out of the email. You get perodic updates on the
virus sigs from them. It runs on NT so you need to have a dedicated box
for the firewall and you will find that this box needs to be rebooted
once a week. But even at that WinProxy is worth the extra time and
expense for all the great features it has built in.

Brad,
May I ask you a question ? Which Firewall are you running? is it
installed on the AS400?
My point is that I'm looking for a good way to secure our AS400 to
eventualy have it connected to the internet. from now on I'm lost, and I
need some waypoint so we can go on with our project.
