Stu, The IP address is split into 2 portions, the network/subnet portion identified by the 1 bits in the mask and the host address identified by the 0 bits in the mask. (However a mask of all 1 bits identifies a single host). You will need to allocate a number that does not begin 192.1.26 - 192.1.27.5 would be fine as long as the 192.1.27 subnet is not being used elsewhere. A router will be needed and devices with 192.1.26 addresses will need a default gateway defined (pointing to the router) as the 192.1.27.5 address is not directly visible to the 192.1.26 addresses.
