How are you "getting to" the modem? STRITF? A typical async connexion is made with an automatic dial, rather than manual. When I hear "manual" I think of the old 502 phone sets with the "talk/data" button, but I remember them as being attached to synchronous modems... My async comms programs follow a script somewhat like this: acquire the device send ATZ (wake up the modem) read "OK" send initialisation string (AT&C1&D2 maybe) read "OK" send ATDT5551212 (dial the far end) read "CONNECT xxx" and other modem responses start conversation with far end ... end conversation with far end pause 2 seconds send +++ (enter command mode) pause 2 seconds send ATH (hang up) release device Hope this helps!
