Hello Dave,

I have not had occasion to use the print support of UIM but its printing
support is
fairly limited. It doesn't support AFP, barcodes, or other advanced functions,
and
seems to ignore highlighting and emphasis tags. Still, since it can quite
happily
replace most standard listing reports it is probably in the same boat as other
AS/400
functions. No one uses it so it doesn't get enhanced. If customers started
using it
then they'd be asking for more functions.

UIM in general needs a better method of generating panels than hand-coding the
tags.

As for Java, I don't think it will replace RPG IV, COBOL, etc. but it will
increase in
visibility on the AS/400. It is a much nicer language than C (or its
incremental
derivative), it will become the client language of choice, and we will all have
to more
with it as the e-everything becomes more pervasive.

Regards,
Simon Coulter.
