0 Hello John, Yes, this can be done. You will need to use different ports because only one process can open a socket on a port. It took the terribly clever Telnet folks about 5 releases to work out what the Services table was for. "Oh, you mean it's used for more than showing a name in netstat, Duh!" In VRM440 they added support to Telnet to actually use the telnet entry in the Service table to determine what port they were supposed to use. Prior to this they had hardcoded port 23 -- well why not? that is the proper port -- I despair! When they eventually fixed this they did at least PTF it back to VRM420 and VRM430. The PTFs are: SF53486 (VRM420) SF53489 (VRM430) These PTFs make the Telnet server use the port number specified in the Services table. Read the cover letter for these PTFs for the activation instructions. Then you can modify the Telnet entry in the services table and assign a different port for Telnet. Use the Work with Service Table Entries (WRKSRVTBLE) command. You have to remove the old entry and add a new one (or you can use the commands RMVSRVTBLE and ADDSRVTBLE). Then you simply start the Telnet server with STRTCPSVR *TELNET. The only drawback is that you have to modify the Service table entry for Telnet before you start each new Telnet server.
