Hi Booth! There's a lot of material for discussion in your note, so I'm not quite sure what angle my response should take. Fact is, there are lot's of places where the old 8.3 convention just doesn't cut it. Think of Java programming with filenames ending with ".java" and ".class". Or web pages ending with ".shtml". Regarding your example, methinks it's contrived. Anyone whose job isn't computer related is likely using a particular popular o/s with which you can view images simply by double-clicking on an icon. Anyone who makes a living by programming damn well better know how to handle such funny filenames as well as different file formats. BTW, for what purpose is DOS still being used among your users?
