Art,

Our FTP Manager product does this, too. I think you can write a little RPG 
routine that picks up the record length of the input file from the file 
feedback structure and uses it to write to an output file. Of course you 
can compress out blanks or any other characters in the process. If you need 
an example of some code that does this just send me email privately...
