STRQMQRY OUTPUT(*OUTFILE) should help.

QMQRY allows you to use variables.
SELECT FLD,FLD,FLD from FILE where FLD = &TEST

STRQMQRY xxx SETVAR(TEST &CLVARNAME)

Depending on what you need, look at LEFT OUTER JOIN or UNION.  UNION is
pretty easy:
SELECT F1.FLD,F1.FLD,F2.FLD from FILE1 F1,FILE2 F2 where F1.KEY = F2.KEY
union
SELECT FLD,FLD,'Not Found; from FILE1 where KEY not in 
  (SELECT KEY from FILE2)
ORDER BY 3,2,1
