Just to clarify.  I don't hate Java.  I hate the way people try and push it
to use it for everything when there are better tools. Java is a good tool
when used correctly.  Not everyone uses a rotozip for everything, but it
sure is good at cutting holes in drywall.

You're right, thought, that learning how to use APIs (any APIs), CGI, HTML
and Javascript will be benficial.  You need to know them to use Java (which
seems to be the biggest misconception) for CGI anyhow.  Don't let anyone
tell you different.  If you can't make a web page with notepad, you won't be
able to make one with any CGI interface, or at least something more that
"Hello World".
