Well, we use two methods for similiar functionality. The first uses 1 member - 1 format, but uses the device ID and User as the key. The records are removed when the user signs off and the file is cleared during night batch to release the storage (like Mark's). The second uses good old QTEMP files with logicals built on the fly. The benefit of this model is that garbage collection takes place automatically. The drawback is that the file is not available to view unless you are sitting at the terminal running the job (and know the back door to the command line). An issue if problems occur in the job. James said he doesn't have "that much of a problem with the method", but my first boss would have taken two of my fingers at the knuckle if I had used a mult-member file and created multi-format logicals over it! I don't know that it's worth the fingers... Karen The opinions expressed are my own and may be the opinion of my company if I say so. +--- +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
