Sorry, I have never seen CREATE FUNCTION in SQL. I tried it and got the following: Additional Message Information Message ID . . . . . . : SQL0104 Date sent . . . . . . : 05/31/00 Time sent . . . . . . : 10:45:52 Message . . . . : Token FUNCTION was not valid. Valid tokens: VIEW ALIAS TABLE SCHEMA UNIQUE ENCODED. Cause . . . . . : A syntax error was detected at token FUNCTION. Token FUNCTION is not a valid token. A partial list of valid tokens is VIEW ALIAS TABLE SCHEMA UNIQUE ENCODED. This list assumes that the statement is correct up to the token. The error may be earlier in the statement, but the syntax of the statement appears to be valid up to this point. Recovery . . . : Do one or more of the following and try the request again: -- Verify the SQL statement in the area of the token FUNCTION. Correct the statement. The error could be a missing comma or quotation mark, it could be a misspelled word, or it could be related to the order of clauses. -- If the error token is <END-OF-STATEMENT>, correct the SQL statement More... eric.delong@pmsi-services.com ______________________________ Reply Separator _________________________________ Subject: RE: Create an SQL function Author: <MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com> at INET_WACO Date: 5/31/00 8:02 AM No, I'm not talking about stored procedures. I'm talking about functions which are created with "CREATE FUNCTION". Has anyone out there created one? Look like you need to register the procedure. Here's a procedure I just created this morning: CREATE PROCEDURE SCANMEMO(IN CASENUMBER CHAR(9), INOUT RC CHAR(1)) LANGUAGE RPGLE MODIFIES SQL DATA EXTERNAL NAME SRCS01/IDR197B GENERAL There's a brief (but useful) sample in the "Sorcerer's Guide" redbook. I believe there are also samples in the ODBC programmers guide. hth eric.delong@pmsi-services.com ______________________________ Reply Separator _________________________________ Subject: Create an SQL function Author: <MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com> at INET_WACO Date: 5/30/00 3:20 PM I am attempting to create an SQL function. I can create the function but whenever I try to use it, I get the error "SQL0204 - RTVDOW in *LIBL type *N not found.". I tried creating the function in QGPL and ensured that QGPL was in my library list, but still get the same error. The SQL manuals do not have any examples on creating functions using RPGLE (which is what I'm using). Any ideas?
