Couple of thoughts here :
1.) Be careful ADSL VS SDSL has very different rate structures,
depending on what you need
one may be better than the other. Also, if you need a static or
virual static IP address then
this is also affected by what you order.
2.) If you can, use a DSL/Router interface. This is a standalone box
that should give you some NAT
and Firewall support. As well as let you share the IP ports. If
you get DHCP and still need to
register a DNS available address then use a device with SNMP
support, and look at the facilities
of WWW.DYNDNS.ORG for your primary DNS support.
3.) As Carl said NEVER connect directly !!!! But, remember that OS/400
4.4 and above, support IP filter rules, and
can host a VPN connection. So you could open a PORT connection
ANY to AS/400 for VPN secure
connections, and then let your VPN server on the AS/400 manage
the link.
4.) If you have more than one computer remember FIREWALL FIREWALL
FIREWALL....
