I don't see this as ERP is dead, rather it points to a change in how we are automating the business. Did the advent of ERP mean that back office accounting was no longer automated? No, it just meant that we now automated our entire business and interfaced it with the parts that were already automated. Does the advent of data warehouses, supply chain management, customer relationship management, e-business, etc mean the end of ERP? No, it just means that we are concentrating on certain aspects of the business and bringing that into our automated systems. Sure there will be lots of money thrown at solutions that don't work. Simply throwing money at something does not ensure success. The same people responsible for success today, will be the same people tomorrow. That doesn't make these new things bad. It does mean that sound, innovative implementations can be a great benefit.
