I know I'll probably regret this, but... I'm not sure I'd say that the 400
is virus proof.

I just created a CL program that did a DSPLIBL to *PRINT. Using SST I then
changed the program to do a DSPJOB. If I did this using SST I should be able
to do this using a space pointer from an RPG program. Technically this is a
trojan, not a virus since it isn't self replicating. But, since I can alter
the code I could then alter the code to include the self replicating
portions too.

Now, the big protection against this is that the "users" of an AS/400 don't
typically install programs, while the "users" of a PC do. However, you could
secure a PC so that viruses couldn't replicate as easily if you really
wanted to.

PS. OK, I'm awaiting flames...

I have also encountered a smattering of AS/400 Q & A on Gartner Group's tech

Republic http://www.techrepublic.com/index.jhtml & when I answer various
questions I include my 2 cents on AS/400, which by the standards of the
folks
in this discussion is probably only worth 0.2 cents.

Also in the spate of recent interest about Computer Viruses, I have been
mentioning to one & all that AS/400 is immune from them, mainly on ZD Net's
http://www.cybercrime.com/ message board & Norton Tech Support forum for NAV

users on Win 9x/NT
