Robert, I used to have to do the same thing you are doing, so I feel your pain! :-) I will do some looking but I haven't had to do it for at least three years so I am not sure if I can help. I did have at one point in time a document from a vendor that gave approximate MIPS ratings for AS/400 systems. If (and I must stress that this is a big if) I can find it the best we can do is extrapolate it to the new numbers. I will look today when I can. However, it is one of the numbers they asked for so I was trying to provide. I also thought it might be interesting to show a comparison of the AS/400 620 MIPS / dollar versus the MIPS / dollar of the mainframe they seem to be defending. This is all part of a nasty political war where user departments / agencies are sick of the mainframe and the central IT department and a suppossedly impartial (yeah right) consultant has been hired to tell the County Commissioners whether the future is the mainframe or something else. Do any of you kind folks that replied happen to know if the CPW ratings are used on IBM mainframe models... I guess I'll do some hunting tonight. Anyhow, thanks for the responses. --Robert -----Original Message----- From: jpcarr@TREDEGAR.COM <jpcarr@TREDEGAR.COM> To: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com <MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com> Date: Tuesday, May 23, 2000 4:32 PM Subject: Re: AS/400 MIPS specifications >I am currently filling out a consultant survey that asks for MIPS rating of our various systems. Burger The answer is *NULL. Or, "How tall is the Empire State Building, True or False? Any number you use, would be misleading and invalid. It must be a old survey, There are much better measurements now to gauge a machine than MIPS. Java benchmarks, Ramp-C, etc, etc. John Carr +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +--- +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
