Re: AS/400 MIPS specifications

I should have (and intended to but forgot) mentioned in my original message
that I realized the MIPS number was meaningless.  However, it is one of the
numbers they asked for so I was trying to provide.  I also thought it might
be interesting to show a comparison of the AS/400 620 MIPS / dollar versus
the MIPS / dollar of the mainframe they seem to be defending.  This is all
part of a nasty political war where user departments / agencies are sick of
the mainframe and the central IT department and a suppossedly impartial
(yeah right) consultant has been hired to tell the County Commissioners
whether the future is the mainframe or something else.

Do any of you kind folks that replied happen to know if the CPW ratings are
used on IBM mainframe models... I guess I'll do some hunting tonight.

The answer is *NULL.

Or,   "How tall is the Empire State Building,   True or False?

Any number you use, would be misleading and invalid.     It must be a old
survey,  There are much better measurements now to gauge a machine than
MIPS.    Java benchmarks,  Ramp-C,  etc, etc.
