Six character date fields will use the IBM standard windowing to figure out
which century your date is, which is 1940 - 2039.  Your calcs are actually
subtracting 2039 from 1980 which gives you -59 in number of years.  You need to
use a different date type format to get the proper result.  We let all our dates
in files and calcs default to *ISO and convert to other formats for display or
printing purposes.
