RE: CHANGES TO QSYS & QUSRSYS PGMs, CMDs, PRTFs

This may not apply to going to V4R3 (can't find the old manual), but check the 
Software Installation Manual for V4R4 (page 44) folks.  IBM is making things 
easier.  When you upgrade to V4R4, the upgrade process creates QINSYS (what 
your QSYS looked like prior to upgrade), QINMEDIA (whats on the media, i.e. 
CD's), and QINPRIOR (what things looked like from the prior release).  The only 
gotcha is that certain conflicts can exist between the Media and your changes, 
and in that case, the media wins. For example, if you made a restricted command 
*public = use, and the media supplies public = exclude, then you will get 
public = exclude.  You still have the QINSYS to figure out what you had, so 
even if you didn't document things (which is still a very good idea), you have 
the info still there.  But things like adding private authorites for your own 
user profiles will still be there, after the upgrade. Great Huh!!  Now all us 
old-timers can almost toss those 'sysupdate' programs we so lovingly maintain.

The upgrade will replace all IBM objects.  If you have changed anything for
IBM supplied objects, the changes will have to be reapplied after the
operating system is installed.  We have a utility program that we maintain
and run after our upgrades that restores command default values and printer
files.  I've never tried to change any IBM system programs, if you have,
you'll have to reapply the modifications.  Oh, you ask, how do you know
what's been changed?  You don't unless you have documented you changes.
That why, in my humble opinion, it's not a good thing to fool with mother
nature and IBM.
A question, why are you going with V4R3 and not V4R4?
