Way cool!  Thanks!

One additional note, I found I needed the correlation (Name) included in the
statement as such, "UPDATE QTEMP/TEST test SET FIELDA = rrn(Test)"

RE: how to add 10,000 records to new file with one field setequal
tocounterJoel,

Here is one way to do it.

SQL -> Create Table QTemp/Test   (Fielda  dec(5,0))
CL -> InzPFM file(QTemp/Test) totrcds(10000)
SQL -> Update QTemp/Test Set fielda=rrn(Test)

  Business problem:

  Salesperson file exists to validate salesperson ID during order entry.
For testing, I wanted to populate the entire file with all possible
salespeople (0001 thru 9999) so users can test application and not worry
about entering an invalid salesperson ID.

  Any better ideas???

  I was curious to know if this is possible on the /400 with a tool such as
SQL or Query/400 or something else without writing a program!
