Probably a misspelliugn of AFP - Advanced Function Printing.

This is a superset of the IPDS (Intelligent Printer Data stream) protocol,
which is
a kind of IBM version of most everyones printer language.

AFP gives you the ability to design and draw boxes, logos, barcodes etc within
an
AS/400 environment. It also exists for other platforms, making your
applications
more dependant on the print technology than the AS/400.

We've been wrestling with it trying to make it go outside its apparnet design
parameters, and our conclusoin is that it's a great tool for producing invoices,
forms etc, merging lines with graphics boxes (which could be a box ful of text -
like a small print footer to an invoice) and placing this image onto a
'traditional' line printer type 'invoice' layout.

if invoices or labels is your thing, this is a good route. You need a printer
which is AFP capable - we used a Lexmark Optra, and I only have good things to
say
about it. I spoke to HP and to Xerox, and they too could sell a protocol box to
fromt end one of their printers for AFP.

Bon Chance!
