As long as you have hardware support - you'd better call IBM.... I've had
several problems w/ my drive and a couple were micro code issues - like you
said but when you apply them you have to make sure that there is no OTHER
tapes (like daily backup tapes) in the drive. So if you can - set to apply
immed then power off/on the drive. I called IBM out one time cuz mine was
really really messed up - tapes out of sequence - spitting them out to where
it would almost hit you (I think it was trying to hit me)... These have had
in the past alot of problems. I just did a 4.4 upgrade and haven't had a
problem... but I do my 1st daily saves tonight... you'll hear back from me
if I do. Usually my Service Director always sent the latest and greatest
when it came to these tape drives... how can I tell which Microcode level
I'm on?

Subject: Magstar 3570 gone mad

Hi all,

During the last week, my 3570 has been throwing a fit on a regular basis.
The loader keeps careering into the sides, it tries to load tapes when it
already has one in the loader, and its just made me do a forced power off in
the middle of a full system save.
This has all happened since upgrading to V4R4 last weekend.

I'm wondering if the microcode has become corrupt somehow by the install ?
How can i re-install it?
I'm current on PTF's; i'm on the latest cum available in the UK, although i
believe that a new one has just been issued stateside, HIPERs as of three
weeks ago (current ones on order). Microcode level is EC=C70654,
LINK=D115_424.

Can anyone out there help me?

Regards,
Stuart
