The other Point of View: (IMHO) We had a 510/2143 rated at 77.7 total CPW. We needed more due to green screen growth. We went to a 720 and purchased 120 Interactive CPW. The cost was about the same as going to a non-mixed mode box like a 620/2180 with a total CPW of 113.8 of a couple of years earlier. Well we got a box with a total CPW of 420 so We got a batch CPW of 300 for free. Now to convert that free batch to interactive is rather expensive. We are now moving to more of a C/S environment. We have the need to image an application and are currently working on separating our Green Screen applications in to client and server programs. The green screen will handle only the screen I/O and all edits and file I/O will be moved to server program. Once that is done, we can GUI our screens to get the imaging we need for the application. BTW the 510 was a P30 and the 720 /w 120 interactive is a P20 so we saved a bundle on software licenses. Compiles sure fly and large batch job run so fast we originally thought we had problems. I feel that we got a lot more than we paid for. Software subscriptions, now that's a rip off. (Guess IBM had to make it up some where.) Christopher K. Sorry about my last analogy, I think is more like, you buy a Ferrari (if you buy one of this ones I don't think you put it on a dirt road), they give you free dirt tires and 4wd. But you have to pay extra for the 5 speed transaxle, the Pirelli tires, etc. AS/400 world has been forever an 5250 interactive world, almost all the applications you buy on the market are directed to that world. But they charging you extra to keep up on that world. Usually, if you need an upgrade is because your interactive load is bigger(more screens, more users, etc), not the other way around. It hard to think that I will need an upgrade because I had installed 50 new printers.
