David --

I can't answer your question directly, but as a VB developer, let me say
this:

If you have an OLEDB provider, you're set.

Additionally, any emphasis on Java is still okay; it's very possible to use
a Java "component" on as AS/400 from within your VB program. Granted XML-RPC
and/or SOAP are not implemented on OS/400 yet, but you can still "make
things work" with HTTP.

Have fun; it's all a blast.

Peace,

I would would like to hear the opions of anyone who has used the Project
Lighting
OLE DB Provider and SDK toolkit etc on a enterprise project --how did it
work out? I have downloaded all the essentials required to start on a
project I just can help noticing that there have been no updates since 1998
(Maybe IBM are more interested in Java releated products-a shame for us
microsoft lovers) and the product still appears to be in a pre-release
state---reading the Redbook made me realise that this is exactly what I have
been looking for to interface the MSF (Microsoft Solution Framework) to the
AS/400.

cheers Dave
