Oh-dear, I guess that's aimed at me - sorry!!!

I don't know, I got back around 150 "read" messages and their still coming.

Anyway, like many others I have to request read receipts as standard,
company policy I'm afraid, but I've found how to switch them off for a
particular email in Outlook 2000:

In the message, go to File - Properties and there is a selection box "Read
receipt requested".

I'll just try to remember to do it in the future. I have (hopefully) done
this for this current email.

Sorry for causing an e-nnoyance.
