Dawn, Just one thought on the modem eliminator: I used to purchase these from Black Box and set them for 38.4 operation (dip switch settings). The standard serial port on the AS/400 is rated to a maximum of 19.2 but the timing signal is from the modem eliminator. So you can probably set it for 38.4 without any problems.
