P Hello Carsten, Thanks for catching the error. I have no idea why I wrote 64KB -- I have made previous appends on the subject of blocking and got the RISC value right. Damn! I hate it when that happens ... senility is setting in ... do I live here? What day is it? What year is it? Regards, Simon Coulter. «»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«» «» FlyByNight Software AS/400 Technical Specialists «» «» Eclipse the competition - run your business on an IBM AS/400. «» «» «» «» Phone: +61 3 9419 0175 Mobile: +61 0411 091 400 «» «» Fax: +61 3 9419 0175 mailto: shc@flybynight.com.au «» «» «» «» Windoze should not be open at Warp speed. «» «»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«»«» //--- forwarded letter ------------------------------------------------------- > X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 5.00.2314.1300 > Date: Sun, 26 Mar 2000 16:05:37 +0200 > From: "Carsten Flensburg" <flensburg@novasol.dk> > To: "Simon Coulter" <shc@flybynight.com.au>, > MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com > Subject: Calculating the number of records parameter for batch extract > > Ri Simon, > > Here's a technical document discussing the effects of blocking and > sequential IO - it seems that the 64Kb RISC max block size now is 128Kb: > > http://as400service.rochester.ibm.com/s_dir/slkbase.nsf/fd9885170ed46f758625 > 680b00020373/d6738e1cd37e1f33862565c2007cef79?OpenDocument > > Best regards, > Carsten Flensburg > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Simon Coulter <shc@flybynight.com.au> > Sent: Sunday, March 26, 2000 5:19 AM > Subject: Re: Calculating the number of records parameter for batch extract > > > Maximum block size is 32Kb on CISC, 64Kb on RISC (OS version is > irrelevant > +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
