Hello Larry,

If you send mail to rchgo400@us.ibm.com you can request a save file of various 
UNIX 
utilities that rochester developers have ported to the AS/400.  Among them are 
gzip 
and gunzip.  You can read more about these tools at the following link:

They've been available for a while and run on VRM430 and VRM440.
