<*snip> My organization recently got another AS400 that will be sitting in the same room as our production machine. I want to use pass-thru to connect them. What physical connectivity do I need to establish between them? Do I need a card and a proprietary cable? <*endsnip> Marv, If you are using TCP/IP on your machines, the best thing is to just use TELNET to start sessions on the other box. If you need to set up passthru via an SNA line, then you will need a line, controller, and devices set up for that. Contact me privately and I can give you samples of those configurations. You will need a LAN connection or a communication line between the machines. If you do not have a LAN and want to use the communication lines, you will need a modem eliminator and the cables for the com. ports. If you are on a local area network with those machines and using TCP/IP, TELNET is the best (and easiest) way to do it. The TELNET command only needs a name that is mapped in the host table or a direct IP address to work. (The telnet server and FTP server should be started on both machines) Other threads in the archives talk about how to set up the servers needed.
