When I did the CISC to RISC conversion (V3R1 to V3R7) a couple of years back, I saved the source for the QUSRTOOL library before I did the upgrade. With a bit of work, I compiled all the tools after going to RISC, and what I used all worked. (If you have a backup tape from the CISC box, the old source *could* be restored). When we were planning on going from V3R7 to V4R3 and Y2K was approaching we asked ourselves: What tools might not work on V4Rx, what tools are not Y2K compliant, and how much time do I want to spending determining this and fixing them? I think you will find the cost of buying the tools is well justified compared to continuing to support the old tools, or trying to duplicate the functionality. We probably use a couple dozen of the major tools for system maintenance (DLTOLDSPLF, MTNJRN, etc). We find them invaluable! They work well, and some provide functionality you couldn't even imagine until you see the description of the tool. Approximately, 6 months ago we upgraded to a RISC box running OS/400 release V4R3 which I think disabled our use of this command. My understanding is that I must now purchase the TAA Productivity Tools package in order to restore this functionality to our system. Can anyone out there shed a little more light on the subject. In order to purchase this package I must cost justify this with my boss. I have downloaded a list of the tools in the package off the TAATOOL website and must admit that I was quite impressed with the number of tools available. It would also be great to here from people using the tools a ball park percentage of number of tools used or if they recommend purchasing the package. Robert D.
