Thanks for all of the replies. (except Pat for the "MR" solution -just kidding-) Although, since the solution requires random access, "MR" wouldn't have worked anyway. Three of you suggested SQL. Can I presume it can't be done with LF DDS? Also, I noticed the difference between Scott's solution: SELECT (list of fields) FROM FILE1 EXCEPTION JOIN FILE2 on (file1 field) = (file2 field) and Rob's and "ubhalla"'s solution: SELECT * FROM FILEA WHERE ITEM# NOT IN (SELECT ITEM# FROM FILEB) Do I care about the difference between using "EXCEPTION JOIN" and "WHERE ITEM# NOT IN (SELECT ...)"????? Are there performance or other factors?
