I did CISC to RISC upgrades inhouse and for customers a couple of time. Order 5798-TBU aka CISC to RISC Upgrade Kit. This is a set of PTF-s that provide Enhanced Upgrade Assistant and a book (THE roadmap). Be sure to get the Upgrade Kit well in advance. You can find the roadmap online at http://as400bks.rochester.ibm.com . Read the roadmap carefully. You will have to choose your upgrade strategy, and this is something to take into account before you order the upgrade. The Upgrade Assistant will assist you with order planning and upgrade tasks. It will provide some estimates about the timings of your upgrade, but I found it to be too conservative for most cases. You may want to run the source and the target system concurrently for a test period. In this case you will have to synchronize the systems before the final switchover. This must be done by hand, without the Upgrade Assistant. Do not take shortcuts - always follow the roadmap! At least for your 1st CISC to RISC :-)) Regards, Benji (Benjamin Budai - Inter-Computer Kft.
