EVI Indexes can only be made via SQL and they certainly do help in many ad
hoc query executions. Most information I have read says to create an EVI for
each field that you feel there may be selection on. It certainly has made
our Data Warehousing application sing! Mainly due to the fact that EVI
indexes are similar to bitmap indexes (but much superior) and can therefore
be ANDed and ORed and XORed together so that I/O is dramatically reduced.
From what I have read they can also help in COUNT() type queries.
