>> it sounds like the potential exists for an ILE program to call a procedure in a service program with the wrong parameters and get clobbered. True? Absolutely and that is why prototypes are so critical. The binding signature only ensures that what is sometimes referred to as the "slot sequence" i.e. the names and sequence of exports, has not changed. It has _zero_ to do with number and type of parameters. There is nothing in the ILE architecture to help out there. Even if you implement operational descriptors yourself (which theoretically could be used to do this) the implementation is incomplete and therefore almost useless. I'm a big fan of ILE, but there are areas that could have been (and still could be) vastly improved. If Bruce Vining is tuned in maybe he can comment on whether we'll ever get full descriptor support. +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
