If you're up to date on PTF's I believe the %Len BIF is available but I wouldn't stake my life on it, I haven't been on a V3R2 machine in quite some time. Other than that, %Size will return the field' full length as defined. I think that's why you're recieving an error when used in conjuction with %Trim, which trims off leading & trailing blanks from a character field. %TrimR trims off trailing blanks only. Without %Len, the only other method of determining the length of a strings value without using an array, is to use CHECKR (Check reverse) op code where you check for the first non-blank position of "SomeField" from right to left. Hope this helps, Regards, Jon A.
