Karen,
You should consider the colocation option. With IBM trying to push the AS/400 to
ISPs, and the rise in popularity of ASP, you could probably finagle a sweet deal
with a small ISP. This is specially true if you are in a position to send
business their way. Other than times when you must physically load media on the
400, you can be remote. The ISP would also provide clean power, and no problems
with communications between the ISP and the 400.

I know of consultants that do application work that have not actually been in 
the
same room as their AS/400 for YEARS! Heck, I have had customers where the
machines were located in another state! If you could get a good POTS line at the
house/ofice, it would be almost as good as being there.
