  • Subject: Cumulative PTFs - what are all these steps doing?
  • From: "Gallagher, Debbie (CA - Toronto)" <dgallagher@xxxxxxxxxxx>

I have an AS/400 running V4R3. Ordered the cumulatvie PTFs SF99430. The
order came with 2 CDs and instructions, which I believe I followed. The
order of events, according to the notes I made at the time:

1. LODPTF
2. APYPTF
3. GO PTF, Opt 8 Install PTF package
4. IPL

I am confused about what is happening at each of these steps and wonder if I
have done this correctly. I find the manual "Basic System Operation,
Administration, and Problem Handling" unhelpful in figuring this out.

It seems to me that LODPTF is transferring the info from the CD to the
AS/400. According to the documentation, the PTFs are applied at IPL. Is this
much right?

What I am still missing is - how is APYPTF different from Install PTF
package? What is being done at these steps? Have I duplicated somthing? And
what are they doing that is not in IPL?
