Hey Ken, Betcha it has a _lot_ of bugs too, eh? ;-) Heard a horror story last week about a company doing retail & distribution. Several years ago, they were looking for a suitable package software for their AS/400. Turns out the owner had a dentist who had a friend across the country who marketed his own package. MIS reviewed it, decided against it, and pushed for either JBA or JD Edwards. Owner overrode everybody and went with his dentist's recommendation. Two years later, they ended up dumping the package in favor of JBA. Moral of the story - Don't let dentists recommend AS/400 software packages for multi-billion dollar corporations. DON'T use anything from Distribution Information Systems Corporation (out of Charlotte NC). We have their Beverage Management Information System and it is a pile of doggy residue ... 1. Bugs. 2. It was bought back in early 1998 (before I started working here) because it was supposed to be Y2K compliant, but while the database mostly is, a lot of the programs weren't. 3. Bugs. 4. A lot of programs with program-described files, extensive use of indicators, cycle handling of WORKSTN files, and other such RPG II "features". 5. Bugs. 6. A real lack of validating screen input fields; including date fields with no validation at all. 7. Bugs. 8. Spaghetti code. 9. Bugs.
