You can create virtual devices that point to nowhere. Use device Category *PRT
and device class
*VRT. We do this to create a printer named HOLD on our systems.

I can send you the virtual controller and device descriptions if you'd like.

Subject: Printer Device

We are eliminating most of our twinax printers and replacing them with IP
addressable printers. Some of these printers can only be defined by the
OUTQ (Konica 7050).

The problem we are having is that applications like Query need a printer
device name.
Since these printers don't have a device description what do we do.

An example, querya has device name oldprinter. Oldprinter is replaced with
an outq described printer name newprinter. We can't change the printer name
in the query because there is no device name only an outq.
On devices like HP5Si we can create a device description but on the Konica
we have to use the outq description because we are required to put "PORT1"
in the Remote Print Queue RMTPRTQ field.
