I know nothing about perl.  But, hows about outputting the data to a file and 
then Querying the result?

I agree, perl is the best tool for that job, but how do you interface it
with rpg? I have played with perl on the 400 but I mostly use it on my
web server and have never had to pass data between rpg or cl and perl
scripts.
