sharing devices

Greetings, 

Pardon me, if this is redundant, but is there a reasonable way to share
devices between two AS/400s?
Specifically, we have two 400s (V4R4 and V4R3) on the same token ring.  I
can FTP save files from one to the other, but are there any options to save
a library from one machine  directly to the tape drive on the other machine?
They have incompatible tape formats of course.
