Use LANSA ! http://www.lansa.com

We are also a software package supplier! See http://www.VehicleSystem.com

My company has written AS/400 applications in many languages, including:
   - RPG & COBOL (Workstation)
   - DOS Client Server (MS Basic)
   - Windows Client Server (MS Visual Basic)
   - RPG-based Web development

Each has a different skill set ... it drove us crazy trying to staff all of
the necessary skill sets!

2 Years ago we chose LANSA as the primary development environment for all
new systems development. Now, we can implement Web & Windows applications
generated from the same source program that work with our previous AS/400
applications and require only one skill set (BTW, LANSA will also generate
green-screen applications if you need them).

I've also seen LANSA generate XML for next generation web applications (if
you are thinking in that direction). We haven't had an application
requirement for it yet, but we should within 6 months.

Without qualification, LANSA was certainly the right applications
development choice for us!
